Parent Involvement
Welcoming families as partners in learning
There are so many ways to get involved and support your child’s learning journey with us
Parent Involvement
Parents and Friends Committee
At Rangeview Primary School we have a very active and involved community of volunteer parents/guardians who work together on the Rangeview Parents & Friends Committee. Our Committee sees itself contributing to the wellbeing of the school community as a whole and encourages parents to participate in the life of the school and the education of their children. Being on the P&F Committee gives parents the opportunity to get involved, get to know other parents and work closely with staff at the school.
We commit financially to the school budget, which assists in supporting the running of some programs within the school. We consult with School Council, the Principal and teachers on what the yearly goals should be. The Rangeview P&F Committee is proud to have contributed to the coloured line/game marking on the asphalt areas, outdoor game tables and twister, mural and rock climbing pegs, shade sail over the playground near the oval, Junior School Playground, and the upgrade of the basketball rings.
We organise many functions throughout the year aimed at both children and parents. Our purpose is not always to run each activity to fund raise, but to provide an enjoyable experience for the whole school community. We work closely with the Classroom Representatives of each grade to ensure everyone is involved, which makes the activities more social. Some of the activities we have run include:-
Social / Fundraising Events: Parent nights, Disco Bingo, Whole School Fair
School Events: Kids Disco, Mother’s Day Stall, Father’s Day Stall, Cupcake Day
We welcome all new parents to our Committee at any time and appreciate any level of involvement you choose to have. It’s a great way to get to know other people in the school community and see how much students appreciate us being there.
Class Ambassadors
Every year parents have the opportunity to volunteer to be a Class Ambassador. This can be a shared role with another parent in your child’s class. It is a great opportunity to get to know your child’s teacher, and liaise with other parents around events related to your classroom.
The main roles of a Class Ambassador is to encourage parent involvement in the school community, remind families of what is coming up for their class, promote Parent and Friends activities, be a contact for families and distribute the contact details that have been collated by the school.

Parent Curriculum and Other Contributions
Rangeview Primary School is looking forward to another great year of teaching and learning, and a continued focus on academic excellence and the health and wellbeing of our community. At Rangeview Primary we provide rich and diverse learning experiences which extends well beyond the standard curriculum.
Schools provide students with free instruction to fulfil the standard Victorian Curriculum and we want to assure you that all contributions are voluntary. Nevertheless, the ongoing support of our families ensures that our school can offer the best possible education and support for our students.
Please be assured Rangeview Primary School makes every effort to keep the cost of items and activities to a minimum and affordable for all. We are continually striving to achieve the best for all students and these contributions, which are approved by School Council, will allow us to provide extra programs and equipment for our students.
Family Contributions are used to cover additional expenditure not covered by Government funding. Within our school this support has allowed us to provide a broad and engaging curriculum, renew and enhance the provision of digital technology throughout the school and to organise and coordinate rich and extensive programs outside of the traditional teaching and learning classroom structure. Our specialist programs of Art, Music, German, PE, Flora & Fauna, and STEM are exemplary, and your financial contributions assist us with the purchasing of varied art resources, musical instruments, sporting equipment, classroom consumables, excursions and camps. Families also have an opportunity to contribute to the First Aid, Library Fund, Grounds and Building Fund. Contributing to these funds assists us to provide first aid care to our students and with maintaining our library and buildings.
We want to thank you for all your support, whether that’s through making voluntary contributions, fundraising or volunteering your time. It is through the combination of parent contributions, donations and fundraising that we are able to offer the rich and diverse learning experience we do for our students.

Rangeview Fathering Tribe RAFT
The Rangeview Fathering Tribe is our ‘Dad’s group’ which welcomes fathers and father figures to get involved in termly activities with other parents and with parents and kids.
Regular social catchups are planned and each term a ‘Dads and Kids’ event is planned. Some examples of past events include Pizza and Paper Plane competition, Bike Ride and BBQ, and each year the annual Rangeview Campout where dads and kids can bring a tent and camp out on the school oval. Mums and other family members are of course welcome at any of the events run by this group.
School Council
The School Council is an elected body of parents, staff and community members along with the Principal, who is responsible for the efficient running of the school within guidelines provided by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Council elections are held every year in March at which time one half of the Council positions become vacant. The term of office for each elected member is two years with casual vacancies being filled as required.
Council members make a large commitment to the running of our school. Regulations governing the operation of School Councils and the Government’s commitment to transferring of responsibilities from State and Regional Offices to school based management are in operation.
There is therefore a commitment required by the whole school community to ensure the best possible use of resources for the education of your children. Council sees its role as supportive opportunity for the children attending the school.
Council meetings are conducted twice during each term. These meetings are open meetings to which all are invited to attend.
The Role of the Council includes:
To determine the general educational policy of the school within the guidelines issued by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
To act as a forum for the wider school community in relating to curriculum objectives, the use of resources and broad organisational policies.
To generally stimulate interest in the school and initiate any action considered necessary for the welfare of the school community.
Sub committees of the School Council help govern many areas that are of vital importance to the efficient and safe operation of our school.
These include:
Buildings and Grounds
Communication
Finance
Education
Reported findings and recommendations form the basis for future decision-making and directions in these areas.
Parents have a responsibility to contribute and represent their children in the current and future education process. This is done via your School Council. All parents are invited to participate; all your ideas and opinions are highly valued.
